The Philadelphia Phillies are getting some good news. The team’s shortstop Trea Turner appears to be on the road to recovery, after being seen jogging briskly around the field on Sunday. Turner is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Turner was observed jogging around the bases, and also running in the outfield grass. He has been out for the Phillies since May 4. Phillies fans are surely loving it, seeing their shortstop getting back in the swing of things.

Turner’s season in Philadelphia

Turner is a key part of the Phillies lineup. The shortstop was having an outstanding season offensively before getting hurt. He is hitting .343 on the year, with two home runs and nine runs batted in. Turner was just spectacular at getting on base, and making plays. He has 10 stolen bases this season, to go with his superb hitting. Before getting hurt, the shortstop had three multi-hit games in his last four outings.

The shortstop is a two-time All-Star, who has twice been the National League leader in stolen bases. He was All-MLB First-Team during the 2022 season. The club is very excited to hopefully have Turner back by the end of May, but management is open to letting him rest up longer.

“We haven’t really got a target date for Trea to come back,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said, per CBS Sports. “We haven’t even set his rehab schedule up yet as far as games are concerned. We’re gonna make sure there’s nothing wrong with that leg when he comes back.”

Turner isn’t used to sitting out many games. The veteran has more than 600 at-bats each of the last two seasons, playing for the Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The shortstop also played for the Washington Nationals, where he won a World Series in 2019.

Phillies season

Philadelphia is having an excellent season, even without their All-Star shortstop in the lineup. The team is leading the National League East, with a 33-14 record. The Phillies have won seven of their last 10 games.

The club is looking to make another deep run in the postseason. Last year, the Phillies made it to the National League Championship Series but bowed in seven games to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Philadelphia hasn’t won a World Series since the 2008 season.

The Phillies face off against the Washington Nationals on Sunday, with a scheduled 1:35 Eastern start.
