Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards Draws 2 Bold Historic Comparisons
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Anthony Edwards has arrived, and his impressive performance in the NBA playoffs has everyone talking. With an average of 32.3 points per game in this year’s postseason, he has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with.

Edwards’ back-to-back 40-point games have drawn comparisons to NBA legends Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins, with Colin Cowherd noting that he has a unique blend of both players’ skills.

While Wilkins was a dominant force in the 80s and 90s, known for his powerful dunks and scoring ability, Edwards has a different build and playing style.

At 6-foot-4, he is smaller than Wilkins, but has a strength and power element to his game that sets him apart.

As Cowherd notes, he also has a downhill force similar to that of Dwyane Wade but with better shooting. Edwards’ impressive performance has led the Minnesota Timberwolves to a surprising win in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Denver Nuggets.

“Edwards has his own unique flair. He’s like a combination of Wade’s athleticism, with better jump shooting, and the physical build of an NFL middle linebacker,” Cowherd said. “He’s hard to describe, but he’s also got a huge personality, which is a big part of his marketability. I could see him being a superstar in the league for decades.”

Despite the comparisons to Jordan, Edwards himself has spoken out against them, telling Fox Sports, “I want it to stop. He’s the greatest of all time. I can’t be compared to him.”

The unique blend of strength, power, and shooting ability makes him a formidable opponent, and his huge personality has already made Edwards a fan favorite.

As the Timberwolves continue their quest for the championship, he will be a key player to watch. He has the potential to lead his team to victory and make a name for himself in the NBA.
