Inter defender Benjamin Pavard has admitted that he teased his compatriots at AC Milan about the possibility of winning the Scudetto in a game against them.

Milan lost 2-1 against Inter in the derby at San Siro last month which meant that their city rivals won their 20th league title in perhaps the worst circumstances possible.

The damage was done with the two goals inside the first 50 minutes, with Francesco Acerbi scoring from a corner and then Marcus Thuram doubling the advantage with a shot from the edge of the box.

Fikayo Tomori’s late finish from close range halved the deficit but in truth Milan got what they deserved after another very questionable defensive performance.

Pavard gave an interview to La Repubblica about winning the league title in his first season with Inter and some jokes that he shared with France team-mates Olivier Giroud, Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan.

“Before the match against Milan I had teased them, telling them that we would become champions against them. We are friends, but the derby is the derby and there is no holding back,” he said (via Radio Rossonera).

On Theo Hernandez, perhaps the player with whom he has the closest relationship, he added: “On the pitch against Theo we faced each other, collided, even pushed each other.”
