Newcastle holding out for ‘reasonable’ Dan Ashworth offer

There is a feeling that Manchester United and Dan Ashworth are losing patience with Newcastle.

Ashworth is set to take the Magpies to arbitration as he attempts to force through his proposed move to become sporting director at Manchester United.

It’s a step up for Ashworth but Newcastle are doing everything possible to delay proceedings.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have not demanded some of the figures quoted – ranging from £15 to £20m – to release the sporting director from gardening leave until the end of 2025.

The report adds that United have not gone far beyond £2m, which is quite a contrast from what has been reported elsewhere. Other outlets believe Newcastle want £20m to release Ashworth from his contract early.

It is important to note that this article was written by Craig Hope, who has brown-nosed his way around Newcastle, so this may be their side of the story.

Newcastle’s search for Ashworth’s replacement is believed to be gathering pace, with Crystal Palace chief Dougie Freedman one of those in the frame.

Freedman was previously linked with a role at United, but Ashworth was always deemed the No. 1 target.
