There is no other way of putting it. For AC Milan this season, it has been a stream of disappointments where rare spells of positivity have been quickly brought down. However, the management are aware of this and will invest heavily during the summer mercato.

For several reasons, this season has been a failure, even when the objectives have been altered. The humiliating Derby della Madonnina defeat left a sour taste in the mouths early on, but elimination from the Champions League, the Coppa Italia, the Europa League and then another defeat to Inter meant the season could not be viewed as a success.

There is one slight saving grace, though. Milan will play in the Champions League next season and look en route to finish in second position, giving them an entrance into the Supercoppa, which is beneficial for revenue on several levels.

As a result of this financial boost, the Rossoneri are in a stronger position to invest in the summer, and the management is ‘determined’ to in the upcoming mercato, according to reports from Antonio Vitiello on MilanNews.

The board are aware of the issues within the team and aware of the gaps that will be created by departing players and want to ensure these are fixed. Additionally, after this season, they understand the disappointment but feel confident about the base for next season, which can be built upon.
