Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Dominik Mysterio has become a completely different man since he turned on his father, Rey Mysterio . He became one of the most hated personalities in WWE, due to the things he did to his family. However, the Lucha legend admitted that turning heel at that point in his career was the best thing that happened to him.

While speaking on the Jaxxon podcast, Rey Mysterio discussed the challenges they both faced due to constant comparisons. He stated that it was hard for Dominik Mysterio to settle into the role of a wrestler and live up to expectations. However, the 49-year-old star admitted that the separation between them allowed Dominik to be himself.

Dom started his wrestling career in 2020 when he and his father feuded with Seth Rollins. Not only that, but they also found some success by winning the SmackDown Tag Team Titles the following year. However, Dominik completely changed his identity when he turned on Rey at Clash at the Castle in 2022. In his “Dirty” Dom gimmick, he truly grew as a wrestler and generated genuine heat from fans due to his despicable actions.

"It was very hard for him at the beginning to try to adapt and find his role as a wrestler. Comparisons were made, and of course, he couldn’t live up to them. Not until we separated and he continued on his own path without having his dad by his side. That was the best thing that could have ever happened to him."
